They are from Shar Mountain Region (Sarplanina) in the Balkans, territory of former Yugoslavia. From the region that for centuries has been experiencing turbulent times, many different nations coming and going, some of them staying for shorter period some of them for longer periods of time. And no matter how similar or different they were, agreeing or disagreeing with each other ... - they had one thing in common, they loved their Sarplaninac dogs, they raised them and shared their lives with them. They entrusted them with being guardians of their children, their homes, their livelyhood, their live stock. In the harsh nature of Sharmountain, they survived through freezing winters and scorching summers, through battles with wolves and bears ...
Our mission is to help in efforts to introduce Shars here in the United States, in all their beauty and glory and have them recognized as a breed, unique as they are!
